    Position Details:

    • Type: Direct hire, full-time, onsite
    • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7 AM – 4 PM
    • Location: Various Upstate, New York
    • Compensation: $75,000-$120,000, depending on experience
    Position Overview:
    The Safety Manager at VMJR Companies is a pivotal role responsible for leading the development and implementation of comprehensive safety programs that protect the health and well-being of our employees, subcontractors, and stakeholders. Reporting directly to the VP/Field Operations, this role ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, promotes a culture of safety excellence, and proactively mitigates risks across all construction projects.
    This position combines strategic oversight with hands-on fieldwork, requiring strong leadership, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in the construction industry.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive safety programs and policies
    • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company standards
    • Serve as the primary contact for OSHA regulations, advising personnel on compliance and partnering with operations leadership to address safety concerns.
    • Investigate and report incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
    • Collaborate with project teams to integrate safety planning into all phases of construction
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices.
    • Manage time and resource allocation and provide safety leadership to assigned projects
    • Promote safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with company and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) policies, Federal, State, and Local regulations, and owner contractual requirements
    • Maintain and enhance working relationships with project staff and subcontractor Safety Representatives
    • Develop accountability model for project team to ensure pre-planning for activities and tasks for subcontractors and trades
    • Review subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with company and EH&S policies, Federal, State, and Local regulations, and owner contractual requirements
    • Review quality of Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) for project subcontractors and Trades based on contractual requirements
    • Hold Preconstruction planning meetings with subcontractors to review site safety programs and job hazard analysis for their scope of work and to establish and review risk mitigation plans
    • Develop safety action items for Preconstruction meetings and verify subcontractors conduct training as per OSHA standards
    • Ensure timely log of subcontractors’ toolbox safety meetings
    • Conduct and review project team’s safety audits, assess recommended corrective actions, and issue reports of violations and / or unsafe practices for immediate resolution
    • Develop Site Specific Health & Safety Plans
    • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field of study, minimum of 5 years of related construction safety experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Familiar with general construction operations.
    • Familiar with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
    • Exceptional organizational skills with high attention to detail
    • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and safety regulations
    • Knowledge of Federal, State and local Environmental Health & Safety regulations  
    • Ability to conduct risk assessments and implement proactive measures.
    • Ability to work on Federal Installations.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels
    • OSHA 30, CHST, CSP certifications a must.
    • EM 385-1-1 certified or ability to become certified.
