    About Us

Girls Inc. of the Greater Capital Region started as the Schenectady Girls Club in 1937. The Albany Girls Club was founded in 1961.

Girls Inc. and the Albany Girls Club finalized a merger in 2001, creating a truly regional organization. Through this alliance, we continue with our endeavor to provide award-winning, research-based programs to girls in Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, and Rensselaer counties. We offer programs centrally located sites in Albany and Schenectady. We serve 150 girls per day with our after-school programs in Albany and Schenectady.

Our mission is to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. We accomplish our mission by providing award-winning research-based programs in six areas:

    - Leadership & Community Action
    - Career & Life Planning
    - Sports & Adventure
    - Self-Reliance & Life Skills
    - Culture & Heritage
    - Health & Sexuality

We believe empowered girls develop into achieving women. We are committed to helping girls build skills and capabilities for a responsible, confident and self-sufficient adulthood. We provide free after-school programs to all girls (Kindergarten- 12th grade).
